Senior Vice President, National Director, Retail

Scott M. Holmes is the national director of Institutional Property Advisors’ (IPA) retail platform. Mr. Holmes’ primary responsibility is to design and implement strategic plans that further develop and scale the IPA retail platform. Based in the Phoenix office, he is responsible for directing our retail strategy nationwide toward expanding the firm’s retail presence and enhancing the IPA brand.

Mr. Holmes’ joins the firm with more than 25 years of experience on the client side of the commercial real estate investment business. He has closed more than $6 billion in retail, multifamily, office and industrial transactions during his career. Prior to joining IPA/Marcus & Millichap, Scott served as senior vice president, acquisitions for Cole Real Estate Investments, Inc. (now known as VEREIT) in Phoenix, where he was responsible for leading their shopping center acquisitions team, overseeing its investment activities nationwide, as well as directly sourcing acquisitions throughout the United States.

Prior to Cole, Mr. Holmes was director of acquisitions for AEW Capital Management L.P. where he was responsible for directing the sourcing, underwriting, negotiation, due diligence and closing of all commercial property acquisitions in the Western United States. Prior to AEW, he led the acquisitions team at American Realty Advisors in Los Angeles. Scott closed all new equity acquisitions for American’s tax-exempt pension fund clients and was a member of both American’s Investment Committee and Valuation Committee.

Mr. Holmes graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in real estate finance and a minor in Japanese. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University. Scott has been a longtime member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM), National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
