Manufacturing Recovery Continues, Setting Stage for Stronger Industrial Demand
Sales momentum continues to build. Total manufacturing sales rebounded in September, rising 3.3 per cent after a modest decline in August. This monthly gain pushed year-over-year growth back into positive territory, marking the fourth consecutive month of improvement since the measure bottomed in May. The recovery was broad-based across most subsectors and evident in nine provinces. Notably, sales of transportation equipment climbed 9.2 per cent as Ontario-based assembly plants resumed production following summer shutdowns and retooling. In Quebec, sales of aerospace products and parts hit a record high with a 14.9 per cent surge, supported by strong deliveries of business and commercial aircraft an increased production of aerospace engines and parts.
