New Opportunities Emerge While Near-Term Headwinds Persist

Improved motor vehicle production drove up sales in December. Following two consecutive monthly declines, manufacturing sales rose 0.6 per cent in December 2025. The increase was driven by a 12 per cent surge in motor vehicle sales and a 2 per cent gain in food products. The sharp rebound in motor vehicle sales was largely attributable to production resuming at a major auto assembly plant in Ontario, which had been disrupted by semiconductor shortages in October and November.
